I believe that three months at LingQ is enough to achieve a significant breakthrough in most languages. LingQ is just a platform and a community that brings language resources and, of course,people together in a handy way. The real learning takes place in the brains of the learners and requires commitment and time.
But if someone is able to study full time, 6-7 hours a day, doing the tasks that we offer at LingQ, listening, reading, vocabulary review, and speaking and writing, then three months would be enough to achieve a significant breakthrough, in any language.
I am quite convinced that whether you are a Basic learner at $10 a month, or Premium learner at $79 per month, the results will be better than going to a school, where the cost is often more than $1,000 per month.
If you have only an hour a day to spend, you will still see results but it will take longer. I spoke today with a Russian student of Italian at LingQ who was amazed at how much he had learned in 8 months at LingQ.
If we had resources on Hungarian, or some such unrelated language, and if I had the time, I would be happy to see how much I could achieve in 3 months of full time study at LingQ. I suspect I would be reading modern novels, and would be ale to understand the radio, and speak on a variety of subjects, albeit while making mistakes.
