Purposeful listening enables me to enjoy household chores. Rather than having the radio on in the background, when I do household chores, I listen to interviews or audio books in the language that I am learning. I choose what to listen to. The content is interesting. I learn about many interesting things. I do this in Portuguese or Russian these days, so my language improves. I would imagine that over 80% of my language learning consists of purposeful listening while doing other tasks, such as household chores. In fact I look forward to spending an hour cleaning up after our guests from last night. It is an hour with my language and learning many interesting new things. The magic of purposeful listening.
